The Whitney Biennial 2012, featuring the work of 51 participating artists, has commenced and for the first time the fourth-floor galleries have been transformed into a designated performance space.

All mediums are covered in the series including sculpture, painting, installations, and photography, as well as dance, theater, music, and film.

A highlight is artist and filmmaker Werner Herzog, Hearsay of the Soul video installation.

The Whitney Biennial 2012 run through May 27.
