- Sugar Bakeshop: “Grab a treat at the Sugar Bakeshop. It’s off the beaten path on 59 1/2 Cannon St.(only in Charleston is there an address with a 1/2 in it) and was opened by NYC transplants Bill and David to bring us true cupcake delights. They have adapted so well you would think they were born Southern.”
- Sugar Bakeshop. “It is so cute inside,” says Stacy.
- The Restoration on King: “A condo converted into a hotel, this unique spot sits right on King Street and makes you feel like you already live in Charleston.”
- Stand Up Paddle Boarding in Shem Creek. “You can rent a stand up board for $40 a day and see views of the city you would not otherwise see. Grab a beer at one of the bars on the water during or after.” (www.charlestonwatersport.com)
- Hope and Union: “The coolest coffee spot ever! I love this place because I always meet someone interesting or find out about a cool event to go to while waiting on my coffee. A must while in Charleston.”
- Spoleto Festival USA. “If you are planning when to visit, definitely try to come during the two weeks of the festival (May 25th to June 10th). When you walk out of the theater in the warm summer night, surrounded by historical architecture, you will feel like you have been transported to Europe.”
- Explore the history of the city on your own horse and carriage tour. “It’s interesting to hear about where the Civil War started, why the houses are built so tall and narrow, and why it is cool to say you live ‘south of Broad Street’.Tip: Definitely spend the extra to take a private tour.”
- Hampden Clothing. “And, of course you need to stop by Hampden for all things rag and bone while shopping along King Street. Our space reflects who we are–think old-world tin ceilings and crystal chandeliers meets clean lines and industrial details. There’s even a waiting lounge with a fully-stocked bar for our clients’ companions.”

- Bin 152. “My favorite spot to grab a glass of wine with anyone visiting Charleston. Locally owned by a husband and wife team, it feels like you are in Italy with their quaint tables and amazing cheese and charcuterie plates. The perfect place to start your evening.”
- FIG. “It stands for Food Is Good and is by far my favorite restaurant in town! I am obsessed with their menu that changes daily and their farm to table concept that won them a James Beard Award for best chef in the Southeast. Tip: Make reservations because it isn’t easy to get a table but sitting at the bar is a fun option as well.”
- Charleston Power Yoga. “A Barron Baptiste Power vinyasa studio that is sure to help you burn off all of those calories you will consume while in Charleston enjoying all of the fabulous wine and food!”
David and Marcus just visited Charleston, South Carolina where they attended a special rag & bone event to help celebrate Hampden Clothing’s fifth anniversary.
And we’ve got to say, we’re a little bit jealous. After all, Charleston was voted the number one travel destination in the United States by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler Magazine. The city came second the year before and has been in the Top 10 rankings since 1993!
Stacy Smallwood, owner of Hampden Clothing, which is recognized by Vogue and Marie Claire as one of the best boutiques in the country, confirms: “The city has unparalleled beauty, charm, and wealth of attractions. There are so many reasons to visit but I want to give you the local’s inside scoop…”
