This week renowned composer Philip Glass and his ensemble collaborated with the NY Philharmonic for two screenings of the 1982 Godfrey Reggio landmark film Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance.
The art house epic, which depicts contrasting images of nature and a depressing man-made world full of traffic, chaos and pollution, was projected on a huge screen above the Avery Fisher Hall stage. Such a strong statement was fortified with Glass’s illuminating score and a surprise from Reggio, who showed up at the end of the performance. Last night the long standing ovation from a visibly moved audience was duly deserved.
