This month, model, muse and art director Julia Restoin Roitfeld, the chic daughter of former Vogue Paris editor Carine Roitfeld, makes her debut as lingerie designer as she launches a vintage-inspired collection with Kiki de Montparnasse. (Available from Wednesday, December 14th).
Julia, who is expecting her first child with her partner Robert Konjic, chats with rag & bone about her new venture and reveals her favourite things…
What’s your first fashion memory?
My first fashion memory was probably my first shoot for Benetton when I was about 4. I had a bright blue wig made out of wool thread. So cute!
Growing up, did you borrow clothes from your mom?
Yes, I started borrowing from my mom in my late teenage years and I still do!
What drew you to designing a lingerie collection?
I have been a fan of Kiki de Montparnasse from the beginning. For me, it has always represented intimacy in the most luxurious and refined way. One thing that I love about lingerie is that it is not solely about how it may make your partner feel, but more about how it makes you feel.
Is there a piece of lingerie you think every woman should own?
My Kiki de Montparnasse body suit (above, middle). I designed it keeping in mind to flatter any woman’s body as much as possible, looking sexy yet innocent.
How would you describe your personal style?
Very girlie and feminine, with a little touch of rock.
Who is your style icon?
I always love Brigitte Bardot for being able to be sexy and innocent at the same time. I also love Elizabeth Taylor’s extravagance.
What are your plans for the holidays?
I am going back to Paris to be with my family. In 30 years, I have never spent one Christmas without my family.
