The box office is gearing up for a blockbuster holiday season with several films already receiving critical acclaim.

Read on for a few we would suggest putting on your watch list before the end of the year…

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Set 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI, the saga continues as a new guard of heroes is enlisted to aid Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in facing Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). The J.J. Abrams directed epic also stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o and Domhnall Gleeson, along with original cast members Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.

Hateful Eight
The eighth out of Quentin Tarantino’s ten movies is set in the post-Civil War era of western Wyoming. The plot follows eight strangers, played by Samuel L. Jackson, Channing Tatum, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Kurt Russell among others, as they cross paths while trying to find shelter during a blizzard.

Joy
David O. Russell reunites his Silver Lining Playbooks’ cast of Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper for this dramedy centered around the true story of Joy Mangano (Lawrence), the woman who invented the Miracle Mop and went on to become the president of Ingenious Designs.

The Big Short
Based on Michael Lewis’s New York Times best-selling non-fiction novel, The Big Short follows four outsiders (Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt) who profited amid the 2007 financial crisis. Directed by Adam McKay.

The Revenant
Inspired by true events, Leonardo DiCaprio is being touted for victory this award season for his method portrayal of pioneer Hugh Glass in this 1820s western drama. Starring opposite Tom Hardy, Glass seeks to exact revenge on the men who left him for dead after he is subjected to a horrendous bear mauling.
