Spring 2010 Collection
Spring 2010 Collection
rag & bone
coming to stores in January 2010
Spring 2010 marks a return to rag & bone's roots, revisiting and reexamining the brand’s original influences. The functionality and integrity of American work wear spun with a bespoke British twist.
The classic style of Savile Row, mixed with vintage military patterns, marked the starting point for designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville. Working against the background of rag & bone’s utilitarian aesthetic, the collection took shape as a unique meld of these incongruent influences. Keeping in step with the spirit of a spring collection, the look is dressed down with layered knits and loose-fitting trousers, creating a tension with the narrow jackets and tailored military coats.
Key fabrics include stone and enzyme-washed vintage twill and chambray, aged leather, and, for the women’s line, stone-washed silk and Duchesse Satin. Most fabrics continue to be from Japan, with special additions such as Swiss and Italian stretch Ponte knits.
Key silhouettes for women include knit trousers paired with constructed jackets, worn open over silk shirting. For men, the look is marked by oversize coats paired with rolled up straight-leg trousers and layered shirting.
The accessory collection continues to grow, now with nearly 20 shoe styles offered, in addition to scarves, hats, belts and bags. This season also marks the introduction of the eyewear line, crafted with the finest quality Italian acetate and handmade in Japan.

rag & bone Pre-Fall 2009 Collection
rag & bone
Pre-Fall 2009
The rag & bone Pre-Fall 2009 collection is a testament to the classics of rag & bone, but with a distinct twist. The hand-tailored craftsmanship and modern take on classic sportswear persists, but Pre-Fall 2009 introduces the inclusion of new color punctuations and fabric innovations that continue rag & bone’s interest in organic fabrics. The Pre-Fall 2009 collection is a suite of key pieces that encompass what men and women want to wear.
A cool shot of coral transforms the tissue-thin double layer silk Smith tee, the trim of the Justine maxi dress, and the pleated silk Cleo skirt. Other essentials such as a double-breasted coat in organic cotton and a motorcycle style jacket in Supima cotton are re-worked to demonstrate rag & bone’s attention to quality fabrics and innovative fabric techniques. A new men’s cut trouser, the Chaplin, was based on a pair of trousers from 1936 found at a vintage shop in Vermont. The full cut leg is full on masculine, but the cinched waist and the silk fabric are markedly feminine. A new vest, the Poche Vest, also has been introduced in nude and smoke silk/cotton that’s as utilitarian in its functional pockets, zippered enclosed hood, and drawstring accents, as it is a key layering piece for what a modern, active woman wants to wear.
The men’s collection is as timeless and ideal for transition dressing as its female counterpart. The soft leather Agnes Shirt Jacket in grey, an array of knits in flame jersey, cashmere and pima cotton, and the classic Waistcoat in cotton and wool are carry over styles that complement the new pieces in the collection. New tailored pieces include the Scalpel Blazer, which is as sharply tailored as its name implies, and the cotton Tux Jacket in khaki with black trim.

rag & bone Spring 2009 Collection
rag & bone
Spring 2009
The rag & bone Spring 2009 collection takes its inspiration from the clothing and attitudes of the British working class youth in the late 60s and early 70s. The youth’s struggle to break from the class system, to be different and modern in a never before seen way, is clearly reflected in their attire. This struggle and aesthetic expression provides a cultural and visual platform, which mixes tradition and rebellion. The influence of music and film also heavily impact the era that the rag & bone Spring 2009 collection channels.
Watching Anton Corbijn’s film ‘Control’ about the British band Joy Division, footage of Ian Curtis on stage and really listening to his lyrics; demonstrate the use of music, film and clothing as a means of escape from everyday life for the British youth. This acknowledgement forces one to delve deeper into the roots of that kind of music and the fashion that accompanied it; namely Jamican rude boy style and French new wave cinema (Jean Luc Godard).
The importance of fashion and the specificity of garment details were incredibly important to a young Englishman and it was this attention to detail, which shaped the purity of the Mod movement. The rigor with which a true Mod examines the break of a suit lapel and the number of buttons on a cuff are key to the inspiration for the rag & bone Spring 2009 collection. Ultimately, Mods give way to the original skinheads and suede heads whose clothes were impeccable and worn almost as a uniform.
The rag & bone Spring 2009 collection rifts on the inevitable friction between rival gangs of kids; from rock n rollers, skinheads, Mods and onto a new breed forced to carve out their own, individual and unique identity.
rag & bone Spring 2009 silhouettes include the following:
Men’s
Short 3 button jackets, super slim hand tailored rock n’ roll blazers, leather jackets, tapered skinny creased trousers, overcoats, polo shirts and string vests
Women’s
Leather jackets, skinny leather sheath dresses, tapered pants, one shoulder silk/jersey dresses and waistcoats
As well as a range of his and hers suits, meaning identical, handmade suits for men and women. The textures of rag & bone Spring 2009 pair shiny versus matte fabrics with a bit of wool, lots of silk, cotton and some nylon tech treatments. The color scheme employs floral prints mixed with leather, Kelly green, mustard yellow along with a classic rag & bone backdrop of rich neutrals in asphalt grey and shiny black.
Accessories include rag & bone bags, jewelry, hats, ties, gloves in collaboration with Dents of England and the launch of a full fledge rag & bone, namesake footwear collection for men and women.
The rag & bone footwear collection will include 3 main styles for men and for women; available in range of color ways for a total of approximately 40 style options overall. All rag & bone shoes are custom built on rag & bone lasts and made from 100% natural materials.
The men’s category includes trainers, loafers and oxfords while the women’s category offers loafers, oxfords and ballet flats.
