About the Collection

For Resort 2013, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville have created a true in-between season collection. "Resort by definition doesn't really exist for us - we are more focused on creating cool pieces for when the weather gets colder," says Marcus Wainwright, designer and managing partner. "Leather and military-inspired pieces, like vintage fish tail parkas, add some edge to very feminine styles. We were influenced by Hemingway-era Havana, modern Victoriana and, oddly enough, a 19th century Russian robe i bought on ebay." Leather is dominant, in a selection of black and navy motorcycle jackets, dresses, pants and skirts, and given an unexpected twist with Japanese basket-weave inspired braiding, a detail which extends to the shoes and accessories collections. Cinched-in waists of dresses and skirts were inspired by fifties-Cuba and the distinct glamour of the period is also reflected in
gold jacquard pieces. Gold continues into knitwear and is present in a torque yarn which twists naturally, rendering the seams visible. Proportions in knitwear are playful - chunky cable knits are exaggerated to create a cocoon shape. Vibrant yellow and navy floral prints, in cotton and silk, inspired by the Russian ceremonial robe, are tempered with sophisticated silhouettes. Modern Victoriana is represented in sheer and lacy blouses and cropped sequin tops. Feminine flourishes continue with fishtail satin dresses and camisole tops with a delicate cross-over strap detail. Following its Fall debut, the pilot bag pops in rich navy and bright canary yellow. A navy floral suede and black leather combo, echoing the ready to wear print, will also be available as a rag & bone store exclusive. Shoes and belts also appear in floral print, while the Newbury boot gets a luxe update in crinkled-effect leather in gold.
